Interesting Sections

Upon viewing the various sections for the semester, I came across three that caught my eye more so than the others.

1. Adam and Eve: from a Christian standpoint, I am eager to hear another viewpoint of this story and the history around it

2. Cupid and Psyche: the fact that this is another version of Beauty and the Beast intrigued me. Will there be a rose? What will vary from the classic tale and what will stay the same?

3. Chinese Fairy Tales: the ancient Chinese culture varies so greatly from Americas, it would be fascinating to read about and discover what they view a fairy tale to contain.

Storybook Favorites

The storybooks were absolutely fascinating to me for me to browse through; it was interesting to see the origins of which many derived. My absolutely favorite stories were the ones about mermaids because of my obsession with them when I was younger. Today, I am going to be focusing on:

The Little Mermaid (not the Disney version, obviously)
I had heard this version of the story before, but, of course, I was young and found the entire thing disturbing. This time, I actually enjoyed the gruesome version. One thing I found interesting is that the image they had used to portray Ariel looked extremely similar to the Disney interpretation, which I would have initially assumed would have been avoided.

The Ghost Chasers
I liked these because the stories written by "Tom" were not at all what I had expected... they were not the terrifying nightmare stories that ghosts are always included in. The coloring and images provided made for an amazing ambiance on the page, which really sucked me, the reader, into what was being said.

Cupid on Trial
Though this page was not very well designed (it was white, very bland, etc) I enjoyed the stories and the fact it was written in a play/stage format rather than a story one. It made for conversations to flow in my head better than they would have otherwise.

Why Hello There!

Hello! My name is Hannah Stephens and welcome to my class blog.

Below, I have organized some fun facts about me for you to enjoy.

School and Work
I am a senior here at the University of Oklahoma, which is terrifying to think about! My major is public relations and my minors are in history and political science. Last semester, I got to take the class PR Writing, which was so much fun to me because I got to create a blog all about different topics I would have never thought about otherwise. I ended up getting a 4.0 for the semester, which I consider a huge accomplishment!
When I am not in class, I am typically at one of my three jobs. I work at Stella Raes Boutique as a sales associate, Capital Distributions as a promo model and at Apple Corp out of Cupertino as a Corporate Rep! Though I am busy, I always make sure to have time to get out and see my friends at least once a week, after all, it is my last year here!
Background

I was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, raised in Augusta, Georgia, and am from Fort Worth, Texas. All of that bouncing around makes me very fortunate for my loving and supportive family. My mom and dad met as camp counselors and just celebrated their 23rd wedding anniversary. I have a younger sister, Amanda, and a younger brother, Jack. Amanda is a sophomore at OU this year and Jack is a junior at FWCD in Fort Worth. We have a dog named Baxter, that my sister decided to adopt off Craigslist as a surprise (:
Future Me
Short term, my goal is to graduate and find a job that I enjoy. I would love for it to be in Austin, Texas, but if not there are always other cities. In the next five to ten years, I hope to develop that job into a career, get married and begin a family.
What Makes Me, Me
I am a music fanatic, I can listen to almost anything and love finding new songs to obsess over. On my dream day, I would wake up at a spa on the coast and then be able to find a coffee shop to journal in.

Son

Long legs, crooked thighs
Little head, and no eyes.

“Push through it Cynthia! Come on now puuuushhhh!”
I wiped my hair out of my tear and sweat covered face and tried to do what my husband was telling me to do. My eyes squeezed shut, I was truthfully attempting to not see what was happening to my body at that exact moment of time. “Ah I can’t do this, I really can’t,” I replied, trying to wish myself anywhere but where I was at that exact moment.
“You don’t really have a choice…” said a shrill voice from the corner of the room, which was instantly shushed by another.
All of a sudden, I heard a shrieking and the pain was gone. The room went quiet, and I opened my eyes and examined the room. White walls. No art. Blue curtains.
My husbands face pale. Expressionless. Blue eyes heavy from exhaust.
My mother and sister in the corner. Shocked looks, unsteady glances back and forth.
            “Where is my baby?”

It was now midnight, and I was in a wheelchair. My husband was pushing me down a long, eerie hall. Nurses were talking in the corner, but I didn’t hear them. A light flashed above but I didn’t notice… I needed to see him.
Suddenly my husband turned my chair around the corner and we halted. He kissed my head and told me to wait there as if I had a choice. After what seemed like forever, he reappeared with a doctor in tail, telling us to come with him. We followed.

The last thing I remember is being handed a body wrapped in blue, and told they had done everything they could possibly do, but there was no way to save him. I looked down at my son’s abnormally small head and underdeveloped thighs and toes. He never even got the chance to open his eyes, yet somehow was all mine could focus on.

AUTHORS NOTE: This nursery rhyme was read to me as a child, and I never understood it. Coming across it now that I am older, I decided to develop it into a story to try to make myself understand.

My Happy Place

POSITANO, ITALY

Positano is a small village on the Italian coast. It is absolutely beautiful, or, as my mother put it, "POSITively wonderful". The entire city is built on a hill, which facinated me structurally, and the vivid colors of the town added to the aesthetics. Everyone there was positive and helpful, which made the experience even more lovely to me.
